 structured warm ups
Before I get out of bed and before I go to sleep, I try to see 251s in my head. I work on technique for a while at the keyboard before working on pieces. I think I need a daily routine on jazz theory warm ups at the keyboard. For example, I go through all the 251s in every key in root position and then I do 251s as ii-7 (1-3-5-7) to V7 (5-7-1-3) to IMaj7 (1-3-5-7)
At some point I should be able to use tritone substitutes, or work the same way with turnarounds.
I am new to jazz and it seems to me to be a process of knowing the parts so you can reorder them and communicate that with other musicians who know the parts and are reordering them too.
I feel I need more help at drilling the parts into my head and hand at the keyboard
As I get comfortable seeing any key as a root or 5th or 3rd I want to challenge myself a bit more, but without becoming overwhelmed.
A set of structured warm ups would be very helpful
